Arrival of the first train on the Southern Pacific Railroad in Tucson. Locomotive #1673 built at Schenectady Locomotive Works. Locomotive #1673 is converted from coal fuel to oil. The locomotive is used extensively throughout Southern Arizona in the service of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Locomotive #1673 is used in the filming of Oklahoma, filmed at Elgin, AZ. Locomotive #1673 is donated to the City of Tucson by the Southern Pacific Railroad. The locomotive is moved to the Arizona Pioneers Historical Society. The locomotive is again moved, this time to Himmel Park, its current home. The engine is started up and run forward into its retaining fence. Engine #1673 deteriorates to the point of near scrapping. Restorative work starts on the locomotive. "Railroad Anniversary Day" proclamation by Tucson Mayor George Miller. Completion of the first phase of the restoration effort.  Ceremonies at Himmel Park. Locomotive #1673 returns home to the former Southern Pacific Depot. Completion of protective structure around locomotive #1673.
